  10. After a long time of waiting, Atari has finally showed the world on the
  11. CeBIT computer fair the new Falcon 030 !
  12. The introduction was very inpressive with super music and great animations.
  13. There is not so much information about the new machine, but i managed to
  14. round up all the things i've read and heard about the Falcon.
  15. There are many (paper)magazine's that have articles about this new machine
  16. but i noticed that non of those magazine had al the data complete !
  17. So here goes,

  19. Name        : Atari Falcon 030 (official release name)
  20. Trading name: Sparrow
  21. Color       : Dark Grey with yellow symbols on the keys.
  22. Looks       : Like the old Atari 1040 STF (Again the joy/mouseconnector
  23.               at the bottom, will they never learn !!!( stupid place ).

  28.               DSP 56001 (mathprocessor) great chip thats for sure !!!!
  29. Speed       : 16 Mhz only ! ( well for the moment ) 
  30. Sound       : 16 bits ( CD Quality )

  32.               able to mix at 50 Khz samples
  33.               oversampeling 80(!!!!) times
  34. Colors      : Pallette of 16,7 million ( true ) colors.
  35. Resolutions : It seems to support all the TT mode's exept the highest mono
  36.               example: 640x480 16 bits colors (almost true color)
  37.                        800x600 256 colors

  39. Diskdrive   : 1.44 meg ( build in ) but it can support drive's with higher
  40.               capacity's.
  41. Harddisk    : A special connector IDE
  42. Ram-Card    : 4 megabyte's.
  43.               Max. expandable to 14 Mb

  46. Ports       : Mouse and joy stick port
  47.               Paralel centronics port

  49.               Local Area Network (LAN) port
  50.               A special 26 pins D.S.P.

  52.               Mic. jack and a headphone jack.

  55. The Mic jack to do samples directly in stereo without a cartridge.
  56. The DSP chip with 128k for digitizing color and mono screens in
  57. real time, execute complex calculations or supporting cheap modems.

  59. Just to give a small impression how fast this new one will be,
  60. with pictures jobs in 640x480 in 256 colors the speed will be 6 till 8
  61. times faster than the TT !!!!. I mean now we are talking about speed.

  63. The Falcon can be used on every monitor from the SM 124/SM 1224 till a
  64. ( Super ) VGA color monitor.
  65. You can use one monitor for color and monochrome.
  66. The 68030 CPU can handle multi-tasking and for example network-intergration.
  67. Quite cool don't you think, but what will be the price for this super work-
  68. station ?
  69. Hang on.......... 1500 guilders,5000 Francs, 4000 Quid, but these price's
  70. are still rumours.
  71. Release date: Around October, but we will see if that is really happening !

  73. The Falcon can handle all ST software and the software-houses will get
  74. the machine send to them for software development around the time when you
  75. read this article.
  76. There is just one thing to do now.......and that's wait till it gets on
  77. the market( I'm gonna save all my money ).
